In this article, we try to clarify the theoretical status of the work force in the regulation approaches. At first, we attempt to clarify the epistemological dimension of this issue by mobilizing contemporary debates of history of the economic thought. Secondly, we point out the existing difficulty in giving a positive theoretical status to the work force. We plead for an institutionalist theory of the wage nexus which links the tradition of the political economy to the socioeconomic perspective.
